Shadowess
This is a little game I am making just for fun. I’ve no real plan – other than adding cool stuff.
UPDATE: Im really happy to see that it got a good score (about 3.96) on newgrounds.com and a bunch of positive reviews.
Use ARROWS to move. Use MOUSE to throw pebbles. Use ‘R’ to restart level and ESC to get back to the main menu. Be quiet. Stay in the darkness.

Teaser
I made a teaser for fun.
The quality is not very good, some of the walls disappear with the video compression but I think it will do for now. The very nice score for the teaser is called ‘slowmotion’ by bubaproducer.

A couple of notes, written while playing:
1. The game is freakin’ big, it barely fits in my 1920×1080 display!
2. I could use a simple percentage preloader for my internet connection is blazingly slow (~500kBit/s)
3. Hitting borders doesn’t produce a sound
4. I’d love to have current level’s number displayed at the start of level so I can more easily “debug”
5. Level 6 states “Remember your training” but you don’t really need to employ the sound diversion tactic
6. I don’t like the fact that guards, when they hear you, move close to the space the sound originated, but they don’t really look there – if they were facing the other direction they can quickly move to the loud spot and not rotate enough to see what really happened (I hope you know what I mean).
7. I absolutely loathe level 9, it’s too long imo – why not put the exit next to the player so they only need to make one round around the square? This might be also caused by the fact that I have played through this level many times before on multiple versions of the game.
8. A skip level feature would be nice for testing!
That’s it for now, I still haven’t played through all of the levels.
Great feedback as per usual!
1) Yes, it’s big, I’m thinking of rotating it 90 degrees and perhaps downscale it a bit, what do you think about that?
2) True, I’ll add a preloader. The sound assets take 95% of all the space..
3) I decided to do this – it made it easier to design levels. Actually there is a subtle visual difference between walls that make sounds and don’t. I should probably make this more clear.
4) Good point. Perhaps even going back to the main menu and unlock the next level visually as well? But clearly the level number should be displayed in the game.
5) True, the texts are just preliminary, I will change this.
6) I think I understand. Perhaps, when they reach their point of investigation, they stop there for a while, looking in different directions before returning to whatever they were doing before?
7) Very good point, I will move the exit to the top.
8- PageDown
Thanks for the feedback, will try to fix it for the next version.

Whoa! Your game is freaking brilliant!
I like the minimalism, the game mechanics, the robots.
Your blog is pretty awesome as well.
I stumbled on it when searching for pt in hexagon.
I am a developer myself (iOS and now starting android as well).
Your site deserves more visitors and more commenters.
I will start exploring it, as it seems to be a treasuretrove of insightful stuff!
bram
Thanks bram for the kind words! I looked at the trailer for “the little crane that could” and it looks like you can have a lot of fun with machinery like that
Well, it’s a very good game. Basic but challenging.
Your PageDown level skip doesn’t work, though.
Thanks, no I turned it off once the game was finished
Now, little shadowess has reached perfection.
The Master greatly approves.
Thanks a bunch, it’s really hard though, I tried it again and not even I can complete it now. Looking into the logs only 10 people out of 700 who played it on playchilla.com has completed the whole game.
This was fun :3 Took me a good hour to beat and if you ask me, the second last level was soo hard to beat but soooo much fun when you eventually DID complete it.
A little hard, but not impossible game
Thanks and well done! A quick look in the logs shows that only 15 people have completed the whole game of those who has played it directly on playchilla (out of about 2000).
